MGA Guru Is GOING MOBILE
45th MGs On The Rocks, Street, MD - (September 28, 2024)
Start at 7-am to meet the Darrell's Garage guys for breakfast at Village Green Family Restaurant in York,Pennsylvania. Overcast and drizzly, but a little more enlightening an hour later. Slightly smaller turn out than normal with 11 or 12 cars, but all determined to roll regardless of the weather.
Considering we had an MG TD and a Morris Minor in the group, we took a "scenic route" to avoid expressways. Hour and a quarter later we were checking in at Rocks State Park near Street, Maryland for "MGs on the Rocks" car show, hosted by MGs Of Baltimore car club.
There were several vendors right up front, easy to find.
Half a dozen British cars for sale, a nice variety of nice cars, not a beater in the bunch.
Next line was the Premier Class, the show cars that had won their class the year before. Nice to have the best of the best eye candy all in one place.
Please do not drool on the cars. Right behind Premier was a row of chrome bumper MG Midgets.
MGB 1962-1967. MGB 1975-1980. MGB 1968-1974.
MGA. MGB GT, and one MGC.
One MGB V8 with a Ford 302 transplant. Nearby the first car in the "MG Other" class was an MG F-TF, now allowed into the USA because it is more then 25 years old. For the same reason, this would be eligible for Antique Vehicle license plates in Illinois.
Then we had the "Other British" class. Start with the Arnolt Bristol, followed by a Jensen Interceptor with the standard issue Chrysler 440 engine.
Working down the same line we had Darrell's Morris Minor sitting next to a Rolls Royce. I had this strange feeling that the Rolls might be packing the Morris in the boot in place of a spare tire. There were also a Sunbeam Alpine, a modern Mini, a Sunbeam Tiger, one Aston Martin and a Range Rover. Incidentally, Morris Minor took 2nd place in this class of 9 cars. Pretty sure the Bristol took 1st.
A thin showing of Triumphs this year, one TR8, one Spitfire, one TR4A and a couple TR6.
Two big Healey and two Jaguar, I guess two cars makes class. One MG Midget race car in a class of his own.
The Lotus Elan came in late, to be parked at the end of the "Other British" class. Too late for the ballots, maybe, but we were all glad he came. -- Seems like the club participation award was deleted from the proceedings this year, but everyone knows Darrell's Garage had the most cars present, as usual. I did not get the long distance award, I suspect because my car was not pre-registered this time. Truth is, my point of origin before this car show was Murphys, California. MapQuest makes that 2730 miles by the express route, and yes we did have to hustle. -- After the show we drove back to York, PA to find a friendly WiFi spot and make future plans.
